Alpine climbing on Vancouver Island has a rich history and an bold, bright future. Scrambling or crimping on the clean steep rock any who have climbed in the island alpine will bring back tales of exhilerating adventures. The situation of many of the peaks, secreted above deep, lush rainforest valleys with views of endless peaks and shimmering ocean water creates a backdrop that to climb amongst can only be described as magical.
The island mountains are characterized by large variations in seasonal snowpacks. A heavy winter snowfall may cloak the alpine in over 8 metres of snow between November and May. Most of this snow will have melted away by the following October.
